DEPT. POCKET FLAG PROJECT 2009-2010
POCKET FLAG PROJECT
October 24, 2009
Dear Dept. of Mississippi Auxiliary Members,
I received a call from the Red Cross representative at Camp Shelby,
Mississippi’s largest military installation. She was very concerned that no one
was doing anything for the troops who were being sent there before deploying
to Iraq or Afghanistan. She asked what we could do, the American Legion
Auxiliary. After thought and talking to our VA&R chairman, Brenda Newell, we
decided the Pocket Flag Project would be ideal for this facility.
I ask that each Unit in Mississippi to support the Pocket Flag Project—to make
at least one order (300 flags) to send to Camp Shelby for distribution to these
troops. Attached is ordering information, how to fold, how to package and how
to make the cards. Be sure to include your Unit’s name and Number on the
card (use front and/or back) so the serviceman or woman can see who lovingly
made this pocket flag for them. Let’s show them that we care!
If your unit cannot afford 300 or can’t fold 300, what about partnering with
another unit nearby…help each other!
Once the flags are completed, send them to me at my home address and the
Red Cross rep has agreed to pick them up for me. I also would like for you to
make sure to put a note in your box, indicating your Unit’s name, number,
project leader’s name and/or president’s name, number of flags in the box and
how much you spent. We want to keep up with the stats on this project to
report to National and to the Pocket Flag Project.
More information may be found online at www.pocketflagproject.com. If you
have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Lastly, thank you
for your support of this important project. Let’s Make Some Buzz…with Pocket
Flags for our troops!
For God and Country,
